Who Am I?
Holly Becker is a published writer and professional blogger and founder/editor
of the popular design blog decor8. Holly launched decor8 in
January '06 with only 10 readers and quickly the site became an online
destination for decorating enthusiasts, independent artists and designers
looking for tips, inspiration and a supportive community to plug into on a daily
basis. Holly shares decorating ideas, interiors, art, products and services,
and her site is known as an inspirational place that helps readers to live a
more fulfilling, creative life. Eight months from the day she typed her first
post, decor8 had over 12,000 readers (quite a lot in those days) and quickly
soared in the years to come thanks to numerous publications taking notice of her
dedication, warmth, enthusiasm and quality content.
By the middle of '07 Holly's blog generated enough income for her to devote more time to the site and today it has become nearly a full-time job. With a worldwide audience reaching nearly 25,000 visitors per day, decor8 is living proof that through passion and determination a success story can result through blogging and networking online.
Accomplishments
In addition to decor8, Holly is a published freelance writer and interior design consultant with an impressive client list: Real Simple, Domino, Cookie, the Boston Globe, HGTV, HGTV Ideas magazine and Boston magazine to name a few. Her work has been published worldwide, including Hong Kong and Singapore. In addition to her first online e-course on blogging, Holly is also writing her first book -- a dream since childhood about to come true.
Personal
Married for eight years, Holly and her husband Thorsten reside in Hannover, Germany. In addition to decor8 she also writes about her life in Germany on her more personal blog, haus maus. A southern girl at heart, she grew up in the South Carolina lowcountry and attributes her love for Georgian, Classic, and Greek Revival architecture to her life there. She loves a laid back coastal lifestyle, complete with hammocks, faded hues, magnolia trees, floral wallpaper, golden brown hushpuppies, and preppy little alligator logos. She also enjoys being with children—she started babysitting when she was 10-years-old, spent three years as a nanny, and dreams of someday writing a children's book and opening a storefront with Saturday morning storytime -- complete with homemade cupcakes. Holly confesses that she'll always feel connected to her southern roots and the many lessons and experiences gained during her youth will follow her no matter where the road will lead. You can take a southern girl out of the south, but you can't take the south out of a southern girl.
