Tour a Minimalist Scandinavian Winter White Home

I love an all white and black home, it shows such restraint to not use a lot of color and pattern. I’m always so amazed that people can live in a monochrome home - so much respect! That is why today, before Christmas and the explosion of red and green, I wanted to show you a minimalist Swedish home that you will absolutely love. It’s a new home, built in 2016, in Aneby, Sweden.

Tour a Minimalist Scandinavian Winter White Home

Aneby is a small village in the south of Sweden and this home is owned by Anette Nilsson (known as @whitelivingetc on Instagram) and her husband. It’s 350 m2, and includes the office of their company. She has three children, but they are grown and moved out many years ago - so this lovely space is occupied only by two, and her pets as well.

Tour a Minimalist Scandinavian Winter White Home

To Anette, home is a calming place where you can relax and socialize with friends and family. She loves her living room most for this reason.

She really enjoys her kitchen too because cooking is a real passion, especially making meals for her friends and family.

When she’s not whipping up something delicious in the kitchen, she’s enjoying her home - styling, decorating, taking photos for her Instagram and of course other hobbies too. Relaxation is also a big love for Anette, just like the rest of us, and her relaxation ritual usually involves a glass of wine, listening to some classical music and burning her favorite candle, Fig by Tine K Home. Or bathing…

When she’s out and about, she loves to go shopping in cities like Copenhagen, Stockholm and Gothenburg. Anette has a beautiful home, I’m so inspired by her Minimalist Scandinavian style!

Anette can be found on Instagram @whitelivingetc and her favorite Instagrammers at the moment are: @elisabeth_heier / @vittvittvitt / @saramedinalind / @saarmanche / and @mija_mija.

Who inspires you on Instagram?

And what about Anette’s home do you like most?

Thank you Anette for joining us today on decor8 with your lovely home and happy holidays to you!

Tour The Home Of Jason Grant, One of Australia's Most Beloved Stylists

I’m so happy to welcome the ever fabulous Jason Grant to my blog today as part of the month-long #mydecor8 series of home tours on decor8 (and Instagram - add your home using #mydecor8 to take part!). I remember writing about THE Mr. Grant many moons ago after first discovering his work in some of the Australian home magazines I’ve been reading for the past 15 years. He is such an inspiring man - not only is he a leading stylist in Australia, but has authored several bestselling books, designs products and paint collections, and works for some mega brands on campaigns and catalogs. Yet, while he’s quite a design star, he manages to keep it real and to stay in close touch with his friends and fans which is one of the best things about Jason - his fame didn’t turn him into someone you don’t really enjoy hanging out with anymore. He’s still mega cool and down-to-earth and so his personality, along with his beautiful sense of style, makes him someone special. No wonder why everyone loves Mr. Grant.

Anyway, I’m honored and flattered to have him here on decor8 today to show you his home and to meet all of you.

I have my eye on the mags sofa from Hay.

When you have people over, how does that usually play out?

Everything is super casual, late afternoon usually aperitivo after a swim in summer, I’m a fan of a signature cocktail of the season (summer) currently a pineapple margarita or a pomegranate negroni, music, conversation and shared snacks hanging out in my outdoor courtyard.

What is important to you when you visit someone else’s home?

To bring a gift, usually flowers or wine or maybe a candle, fresh flowers or a plant? I love house plants and fresh flowers and often have both but I am also a recent convert to dried flowers too (but done well).

Red wine or white?

Rosé always in summer!

Tour This Colorful + Cheerful Dutch Home

Hello lovely friends and happy Friday! I can’t wait to spend the weekend with my little boy, I want to play games with him and take him to the Christmas markets again, and invite his friends over to play. It’s such a magical time of year. What will you do this weekend?

Home Tour: Zilverblauw for decor8

Today, I want to inspire you with another home tour from the #mydecor8 series. You can follow more beautiful homes as part of this tour on Instagram by looking up hashtag #mydecor8.

This colorful, cheerful nest belong to Anki Wijnen from Zilverblauw who lives in Oisterwijk, the Netherlands. She owns this home, which is 175 m2, along with her husband, two sons, and a siamese cat named Pjoes, also known as #rotsiamees on Instagram. Below are photos from her home along with a flash interview, so you can learn more about Anki and her favorite things.

Home Tour: Zilverblauw for decor8

What is on your playlist?

Lots of Christmas music, at the moment. I love Christmas. We have a radio station that broadcasts only Christmas songs and I listen to it almost 24/7 from November until the new year.

What do you love most about your home?

The old, authentic details.

What would you like to change?

We still need to renovate our studio, the former owners used it as a private pub and it still looks like that. It’s dark, with small windows. We want to turn it into a white, bright space, but I’m afraid it will take some time since we’ve just finished renovating the living room and are in desperate need for a break after all the renovating.

What is important to you when you visit someone else’s home?

Nothing really. I just hope they are happy living there.

Home Tour: Zilverblauw for decor8

When you have people over, how does that usually play out?

We have a large garden with a pizza oven (the outdoor oven from Dutch design brand Weltevree) so usually we make and bake our own pizzas. We even use the outdoor oven to bake pizzas in winter. It’s so cozy and warm around the fire of the oven and nothing tastes better than homemade pizza.

What is your dream piece to buy for the home?

I would love one of these wood burning stoves for in our studio from EPS Collection.

Fresh flowers or a plant?

Fresh flowers, although this plant is high on my wish list from WOUT.

Red wine or white?

No wine at all, I rarely drink alcohol, although my last name is Wijnen, ‘wines’ in Dutch. What’s in a name, right?

Chocolate or Vanilla?

Chocolate

Favorite city to shop for home and fashion and why?

Den Bosch is a nice city with lots of design shops, pretty restaurants and creative places.

Favorite Instagram accounts?

@wowncrew @enigheid @ohmariemag @cristiankiesling @middleclasswhitegirl

Thank you so much Anki for this lovely tour!

Tour The Cozy Scottish Home of Nina Plummer

Hello friends! I’ve decided for the final month of 2018 that instead of sharing my favorite posts from the year, that I’d instead gather together a bunch of lovely homes and let you tour them to wrap up 2018 with gobs of beauty, inspiration and ideas. How does that sound? For our first home tour to kick off the selection I’ve made, I’d like to welcome Nina from Scotland and share with you her cozy home that is sure to give you a good feeling inside (and some nice decorating ideas, too!).

Nina Plummer Home Tour on decor8

Nina Plummer is a lovely creative and shop owner (Founder of Ingredients LDN) from Edinburgh, Scotland whom I follow on Instagram (her account is: @ingredientsldn). I find so much inspiration from her photos and home. She lives in a 2-bedroom home, 120 square meters, that she shares with her husband and her Havanese dog, Milo.

I thought that I’d share her charming space with you today along with some insights into the mind of Nina with all of you based on a series of 16 questions that I’ve asked her. I’ve peppered the questions and answers throughout her home tour below. I hope that you enjoy the photos, the pretty thoughts she’d left, and her fantastic playlist along with some of her own favorite Instagram accounts. Enjoy!

What does home mean to you?

Home is anywhere in the world in the company of my husband.

What do you love most about your home?

We have only just finished renovating, in fact, we are not quite finished yet, so nothing.

Nina Plummer Home Tour on decor8

Conversations in front of the fire with our dog snuggled up in that ridiculously comfortable way dogs know how to sleep.

Homemade dashi ramen broth.

What is on your playlist?

Django Reinhardt - Minor Swing, Nick Drake - Pink Moon, Billie Holiday - Big Stuff, Alexi Murdoch - Slow revolution, Eliot Smith - Between the bars.

Nina Plummer Home Tour on decor8
Nina Plummer Home Tour on decor8

Your dream piece for the home?

Any object that will look better with time and use. I love when the things we surround ourselves with invite us to use them and the marks and traces they acquire only add to their character - marble is a dream because of this reason. So is linen.

How would you describe your style?

Natural materials, a neutral colour pallet and objects that come with stories whether it is the stories of the makers who made them, the stories captured in vintage and antique items or the stories of time preserved in materials such as copper or brass.

What is important to you when you visit someone else’s home?

The atmosphere, it's just wonderful when people can create a space that makes you feel relaxed and puts you at ease.

Fresh flowers or a plant?

Both! And dried flowers too.

Nina Plummer Home Tour on decor8

Red wine or white?

Ice cold white in the summer, deep mellow red by the fire in winter.

Chocolate or vanilla?

Homemade vanilla with real vanilla seeds that crunch under your teeth.

Nina Plummer Home Tour on decor8

Favorite city to shop and why?

Amsterdam - De 9 Straatjes (The 9 Streets) and Grachtengordel area: the sweetest small and independent boutiques, the loveliest vintage and antique stores set in the most magical, beautiful setting. It's like walking through a quaint dream.

New Colors by Farrow & Ball

Hello everyone. I’m so happy to share with you the new colors just released today by Farrow & Ball, they are gorgeous and I’m sure you will love them as much as I do. My 5 instant favorites are Jitney, De Nimes, Treron, Sulking Room Pink and School House White. What are yours?

I have F&B paints in nearly every room of my hall, and love them. The colors are exceptional. In fact, I can’t wait to soon paint my hallway, entry room and little boy’s room. I’m already looking through these colors below to see which I’ll choose because I would love something from this collection. I think the School House White for my long hall would be pretty and the Jitney in my big entry room to replace my Pineapple wallpaper. Hmmmm. I am battling with that at the moment, whether or not to replace my gold Pineapple wallpaper. I really feel like I need calm in my home for Fall/Winter and into next year. I’ve had the Pineapple since my baby was born, so for nearly 5 years, so I think it’s okay to try something new.

Here are 9 the new colors.

Tour A Modern Minimalist Apartment in Vienna

Ready to be totally inspired today? I first found Stylist and Blogger Svenja Brücker through blogging and her Instagram, and simply had to invite her to decor8 for a home tour and to speak about her life and style which she describes as, "Airy, light and with love for the detail!". Svenja, who writes Traumzuhause, is German living in Vienna for a little over two years and has a fantastic city apartment that is very modern and minimalist. She works freelance as a blogger and interior stylist and occasionally decorates residential spaces.

Together with her boyfriend, they share a 4 room, 120 square meter flat with spacious rooms which boast soaring ceilings and a cozy balcony for two with a city view. What made her fall in love with her apartment and decide to move in? It was easy, "the classical details of our apartment like the beautiful herringbone floors, 4 meter high ceilings, double wing doors, huge windows, and tiny details like the light switches and the original brass door and window handles - everything presented together made me fall for this place! For me, it’s the perfect stage for all the furniture that I love!".

What does Svenja love in her apartment, when it comes to her personal belongings? "A couple of weeks ago did a little hallway makeover and the new round mirror hanging there turned out to be a favorite piece of mine as well as the Saxe chair from byLassen that I got recently. Besides that, I love my white linen sofa and the old workbench that I use as my coffee bar."

I had to know why Svenja put her coffee bar in her living room though, so I asked and she explained that it's right near the kitchen, where they work a lot, so having it near to their desk was the perfect solution because the door to the kitchen is almost always open so it feels like one big space anyway. I love this coffee bar, I can't stop looking at it!

As I looked through her gorgeous home photos, I wondered where she shops. Where does she find all of her lovely things? Here are some stores she highly recommends: Connox, Dopo Domani, Geliebtes Zuhause, The Posterclub and Granit. I can vouch for Connox (they are based here in Hannover!), Granit (big love for them) and The Posterclub, I shop there too. I have to look into Dopo Domani and Geliebtes Zuhause, I've not heard of them but am eager to check them out.

My home is my shelter and also the place where I can do whatever I want to do and where I can surround myself with all the things I like the most.
— Svenja Brücker

With every apartment though, there are things that we don't like and wish to change. I asked her about that too. "I would love to change the bathrooms and the kitchen. Not because I don’t like them, but because there are so many more interesting and more beautiful options out there. Being surrounded by all those perfectly designed kitchens and everything else on a daily basis is sometimes really hard and creates a lot of desire. I guess everyone working in the design field knows what I’m talking about!". Yes, absolutely!

Now for wish list items. We all have them! I asked Svenja and she reveals, "That’s a tough one! I got a thing for outstanding lighting, so I always have a new lamp on my mind and also on my wishlist. At the top of it is the Vertical Globe lamp from Atelier Areti and also the Oda lamp from Pulpo right now. I would really love to own those! Besides that, I have a white or light grey Gervasoni Ghost sofa on my wishlist (but need a second living room for that)."

We also talked about her Instagram photos because, in addition to her apartment, she shows a lot of fantastic travel destinations from her many, often exotic, adventures. I was curious how these locations have inspired her interior style so we chatted about this and she revealed, "Every beautiful place that you see affects the way you look at things. Traveling definitely inspires me a lot but I don't try to recreate a style from a travel destination at home." She continues, "What works for your home often has to do a lot with the design of the apartment itself and also where it is located. I really like the easy-going modern Balinese style but I would never try to recreate this in my Viennese apartment because that would be not authentic to me or to the property or location."

Australia: What inspired me most about this country was the amazing energy that I felt in the big cities like Melbourne and Sydney. I have never seen so many unique places for food and coffee with outstanding quality everywhere. I felt that especially in Bondi Beach and Byron Bay, people were super laid back but also full of energy at the same time, I really loved this special vibe.

Bali: A lot of Aussies live on this island and you can see it everywhere because they took their relaxed, inspiring lifestyle to Bali. Other than the many creative cafés and beautiful beach clubs, I also love the pure beauty of the country itself. I still remember the first time I saw one of the big rice paddies. Bali is pure heaven to me!

San Luis Hotel Südtirol: One of the most relaxing places I’ve ever been to is this little gem in South Tyrol called, "San Luis Lodges Hotel“ some weeks ago. You can sleep in a tree house and watch birds and deer in the woods surrounding you while sitting in a hanging chair. Talk about a perfect getaway!

 OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

and Vienna (where I live!): Jonas Reindl, which is my favorite coffee shop that I visit almost daily, Volksgarten (especially when the hundreds and hundreds of roses are blooming), Lunch at Erich and strolling through the nice little streets surrounding this place afterward, the magical Palmenhaus at Schönbrunn and Lamée Rooftop Bar to enjoy the view above the city in summer.

Thank you so much for this wonderful tour and your insights into home and travel, Svenja. Was lovely to have you here today on decor8!
