Interiors Trend: Rattan, Cane, Natural Style... Meet Sika Design!

Hello friends, how are you? I want to introduce you to a brand that I found on the Formland fair website about a month before I went to the fair, called SIKA DESIGN. I liked them so much that I selected their Belladonna sofa to be part of my trend corner, SELECTED BY, at Formland earlier this month. If you want to see it, click here or look below at the first image which shows the lovely Belladonna in all of her glory!

Today I thought to share some things from Sika Design with you because the natural style interiors trend is forever a hit and just continues into 2019, with even more sightings of natural materials like rattan, teak and cane, which bring in a a very island, coastal vibe.

I believe a lot of us are trying to create a vacation spot at home - bring in a little Bali or L.A. to our everyday world since, realistically, how many of us can afford running off to exotic destinations on a regular basis? And even if we can afford it, we may not have the time to do it.

The trend to create a home atmosphere that feels like a bit of an escape, or a posh 5 star resort, is quite practical in this sense, don’t you think?

You may not want to have rattan, cane and teak in every room, but you can definitely put hints of it here and there and create a nice mix.

Personally, I have a cane headboard in my bedroom and a rattan mirror in my living room, also some rattan/wood pendants in the hallway, and that’s enough for me but it adds enough of that “resort” style to feel authentic and natural in my space. And I love it.

Not sure if you knew it, but Sika Design just launched two new headboards that I love - I want to actually spray paint them in petrol, black, red, or white and use them in a hotel design or guest bedroom. They’d be fabulous all lacquered up! Don’t you think?? Even natural, they are just gorgeous. So…. Meet Celia (above) and Natalia (below). They are handmade by skilled artisans in Indonesian and bring in a lot of warmth and charm.

Here are some more things from Sika that I find charming and perfect for any home, any style. And with Spring heavy on my mind, I’m getting interested in creating a cozy wintergarten off of my bedroom - perhaps with Sika furniture, I have to check my budget and see…

What do you think of this trend, of more natural hand-crafted pieces in the home? Of rattan, cane, teak? Any comments about it?

Love,

Holly

Shop My Peaceful, Eclectic Living Room

Hello friends, how are you? I have been very busy with many projects, but the most important and wonderful one was the 5th birthday of my son Aidan! He just turned 5 this past Saturday and I couldn’t be happier or more excited to see him growing up to be a lovely little person! We spent his birthday week in Copenhagen and then on Saturday, we filled the house with kids and had a nice little celebration. It was wonderful!

Did you know that one of my other projects has to do with STARTING A MAGAZINE? Oh yes! And I’m so excited about that because it’s a big project that took all of 2018 to work on, and on January 24, 2019 (just a few weeks ago!) we launched issue one “Living at Home + Holly”, with 100,000 printed copies in German-speaking Europe and now, a digital ENGLISH version! Woo hoo! If you search Instagram for it, look for #livingathomexholly

Anyway, I still can’t believe it when I go to newsstands and see my magazine there, I’m also on the cover so you can’t miss it, and the lovely mag was powered by Living At Home and Editor-in-Chief, Sinja Schütte. She is such an amazing woman, I really love working with her and her brilliant team.

I’ll tell you more about the magazine tomorrow in a post, (BUY IT HERE IN ENGLISH AND GERMAN), but many people have asked me about the rooms in my home from the magazine so I thought I’d create a post first for my living room and how to SHOP THE LOOK.

7 Favorite Things For Christmas From Martha Stewart (+ 3 Cookie Recipes!)

Around the holidays, I used to love when my mother sang, “Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels, doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles, wild geese fly with the moon on their wings, these are a few of my favorite things,” from the Sound of Music. It was always such a comforting and loving song to hear as a young girl. Do you have a favorite holiday song, too?

Each year around this time, I’m thinking a lot about my favorite things, especially family and friends - the people I love, the wish lists and the many hopes we each have of getting something new to cherish from someone we care about.

For my second and final post about The Martha Stewart Collection created for Macy’s, I’m sharing a few of my favorite things from her holiday collection around the theme of EATING. If you remember from Friday, my first post from the collection centered around SLEEP. Now that you’re awake, it’s time to eat, so below are 7 things for mostly the kitchen, and yes the wreath again because the second one I have is on the door and I wanted to show you how it looks, and - the bonus - 3 cookie recipes from Martha!

Favorite Things From The Martha Stewart Collection created for Macy's

Here are my “things” but do allow me to geek out a bit, because details make me deliriously geeky when they are done right. BUT I honestly can’t stop looking at my new cast iron dutch oven (below) in raised letters “MARTHA STEWART” on the lid, I mean, no one in Germany has that on their stove this holiday season but me (and maybe you too if you order from Macy’s, they ship overseas now). I wish I had ordered more, because I know at least a few of my foodie girlfriends over here are going to want one too.

These are my 7 favorite things from The Martha Stewart Collection created for Macy’s BUT they are selling out quickly so you better watch out, you better not cry, you better click fast, I’m telling you why….

1/ 24" Lightly Frosted Wreath with Mercury Glass Balls

2/ Tree Bowl

3/ Grey Plaid 2-Qt. Enamel Cast Iron Dutch Oven - also available in red in two sizes

4/ Stainless steel bottle/thermos (we are taking ours over the weekend to the mountains for a snowy hike, and filling it with hot cocoa!)

5/ Tree s+p shakers (Update: Sorry they just sold out).

6/ Cookie cutters and tray (Update: Sorry, they also just sold out.)

7/ Martha Stewart Tea Kettle

Now, how about 3 lovely Christmas Cookie recipes from MarthaStewart.com? You can view more on her website HERE. I found these, and I’m definitely baking the gingerbread this weekend with my little boy + friends. Nom Nom Nom.

I hope that you have lovely plans lined up for the holidays. What will you do? My last day of work for this year will be this Thursday, then I’m off until 2 January. BUT, I have good news for you… I have home tours lined up from tomorrow until the first week of January, so I’ve scheduled them to all run while I’m away… If you want to see what I’m up to over the holidays, I’ll definitely be posting on my Instagram and Instagram Stories (@decor8), so please stay in touch with me there.

I’ll be back tomorrow with a gorgeous home tour - TO DIE FOR - stay tuned friends!

Love,

Holly
